LQHBA Presents The LA MILLION and $15,000 in LQHBA SCHOLARSHIPS!!!

Saturday, December 15th, the LQHBA will host the Louisiana Million Race at Evangeline Downs!

Immediately following the 4th race in the Winner's Circle, the LQHBA will draw 6 Scholarships totaling $15,000 (1 for $5,000 and 5 for $2,000), which includes the $2,000 Paul Ryder Memorial Scholarship. Recipients will be Louisiana High School graduates along with graduating students entering higher education institutions in 2019.

Participants/Entrants must register at Evangeline Downs in person between 5:00pm and 6:45pm on Saturday, December 15, 2018 adjacent to the clubhouse elevators on the first floor. Attendance by the participant/entrant is mandatory at the live drawing. Participant/entrant must be a Louisiana High School graduate or a student who is graduating from a Louisiana High School in 2019 and will attend a higher education institution in the calendar year of 2019.

Scholarship award is limited to the cost of tuition, books (electronic or printed) and required electronic study materials only. The proceeds of the scholarship will be paid directly to the educational institution. Scholarships are subject to approval by the LQHBA board. Recipient is required to participate in promotional photos receiving their scholarship award certificate.

Cajun Rodeo Association Finals Rodeo!

NEW IBERIA, LA -- The Cajun Rodeo Association Finals Rodeo presented by Jane’s Seafood and Chinese Restaurant and Allstream Services and Rentals will return to the Sugarena at Acadia Fairgrounds for the second year in a row.

The CRA Finals Rodeo will bring the top Cowboys and Cowgirls to New Iberia from across the great state of Louisiana on November 30 and December 1, 2018. Along with St. Martinville's own, funnyman, Heath "The Dancin Cajun" Breaux and professional rodeo announcer, Blue Jeanes of Winnie, Texas, you will see the best that the CRA has to offer.

The first action packed performance will begin at 7:00 pm on November 30 with the final performance again starting at 7:00 pm on Saturday, December 1. Admission to the rodeo is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for kids ages 6-12, with 5 and under admitted for free. Gates will open at 5:00 pm and concessions will be sold.

Contestants will compete for year-end championships in their respected events such as Ranch Bronc Riding, Tie-Down Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, Breakaway Roping, Team Roping, Ladies Barrel Racing and the highly anticipated favorite, Bull Riding. The rodeo will also feature the well-known Cajun Buddy Barrel Pick up event, something once witnessed you will never forget. From all walks of life, as young as 10 years old to over 65, they travel from home as far as the Texas state line to Southwest Mississippi and of course in between. These

contestants have competed all year long working towards this opportunity to battle throughout the weekend for over $50,000 in cash and prizes.

There is sure to be something for everyone at the 2018 CRA Finals Rodeo. Kids 12 and under will have the opportunity to participate in a free calf scramble being offered during the rodeo performance nightly. Family fun and entertainment at its finest, the rodeo will keep you on the edge of your seat all night long!

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser is extremely proud of Louisiana native Heather ‘Flash’ Accardo.  From Prairieville, LA, Heather is competing in the 2018 Mongol Derby amongst 40 competitors from across the world. This international race is one of the longest races in the world entailing competitors to travel over 600 miles via horseback along the rugged and challenging Mongolian terrain.
